antioxidant highlights

Dark chocolate boosts antioxidant levels and research suggests that it lowers blood pressure and combats aging. In a recent study, the antioxidant concentration in hot chocolate was almost twice as strong as red wine. Cornell University researchers have found that cocoa's concentration was two to three times stronger than that of green tea and four to five times stronger than that of black tea. Phytochemicals called flavonoids that are found in cocoa have two positive effects. One, the antioxidants block arterial damage caused by free radicals. The second indicates that chocolate inhibits platelet aggregation which could cause a heart attack or stroke.*
