The Company’s founders, both cancer survivors, received a variety of gift baskets at the time of their diagnosis and during their treatment.  These gift baskets were filled with snack foods high in sugar and fat, and gave rise to the idea of an antioxidant rich gift box, fitting an unfilled niche in the gift and health and wellness markets.  The founders extensively researched the benefits of antioxidant rich foods and products and decided to incorporate them into their diets and personal care regimes.  Although antioxidants have not yet been formally acknowledged by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, antioxidant rich superfoods and personal care products have been shown by scientists to quash free radicals and chemicals produced by the body that have been linked to a host of chronic conditions and diseases.  The founders of AntiOx in a Box also believe that antioxidant rich superfoods made a difference to their treatment outcome. 

Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in certain foods and personal care products which can prevent or slow down oxidative damage to the body. When the body’s cells use oxygen, they naturally produce free radicals or by-products which can cause damage to the body.  Antioxidants act as “free radical scavengers” and prevent and repair damage by these free radicals.  Health problems such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. have been linked to oxidative damage.  Antioxidants may also enhance immune defense and therefore lower the risk of certain diseases and conditions.
